Sing with me! West Bank Story

“Once upon a time there was a place were people had to live ones with each others leaving apart their differences…”

This might sound like a common story but the way this is told is unique: Jewess and Muslims, a difficult pair to get on well. You need a bit of sarcasm? West Bank Story is an independent short movie that  tells the story of History: the irrational fight among cultures.

Its director, Ari Sandel gives us 21 minutes of songs, dances and an interesting location; two different fast food restaurants to symbolize the longlife conflict of the Middle East that has been part of our everyday news from an inmemorial time now.

Love, music, dance, humor, and a controversial topic: the Middle East conflict seen from 2005, when the movie was released. From a Palestinian girl falling in love with an Israeli soldier to Jews dancing with Arabs. Despite of that, the end has a positive message that both sides were able to understand, bringing the success to the movie, that won an Academy Award for Life Action Short Film.

The director gives us a  different perspective of the Conflict trying to catch people’s attraction. What will happen with the conflict in the Middle East is something that we won’t know but it has been part of our lifes. It may not be resolved in decades, but West Bank Story makes us be more human and brings a bit of hope to the future.

A must watch and think about!
